Sabah | Koll Ma Bachoufak (Soutelphan, 1972)

You love Sabah. We love Sabah. This recording, also transliterated "Kolli Ma Bchoufak," is near-impossible to find on 7" and has just the most incredible clear guitar opening. The version we recently found is not cataloged on Discogs -- so far as we know, this is the only image of that amazing silkscreened cover on the internet.

This is a slow, casually intense groove that builds with the guitar snaking lazily around a taut orchestra for a full minute and a half before Sabah delivers her first line.

Her voice is deep, intense, filled with emotional wavering and just a hint of pyrotechnics. It's one of her most memorable performances, and we can see why it was included on a number of cassette and CD compilations later in the singer's career.
