Maha Sabri | Qalli Kilma (Sono Cairo)

 

Egyptian actress and singer Maha Sabri is a big favorite around these parts, but never seemed to get her due outside of her home country -- and even there, she seems to have dropped off the map in the mid-1970s, never having made the transition to the CD/digital era.

Sabri married several times; the third time only upon promising to leave the industry. Oum Kalthoum reportedly had to intervene to get Sabri briefly back into recording before Sabri vanished from the industry altogether.

Today's single is not catalogued on Discogs; it's an incredible listen, the A- and B-sides quite different from each other, though the label assures us it's all the same song.
